Dr. Jocelyn Aznar is a researcher in the DFG Project A02 Speaker's choices in creole contexts: Bislama and Morisien within the framework of the CRC 1412 Register: Language-Users’ Knowledge of Situational-Functional Variation / Research Area 3 'Syntax & Lexicon'.
His PhD was an ethnolinguistic description of Nisvai narratives, a previously undocumented oral language of Vanuatu, Oceania. The study relied on participant observation and annotation interviews during the fieldwork as well as Data Processing and Visualization of the corpus back at the office. Based on these experiences, he now develops and tests quality assurance procedures for the creation and curation of annotated, audiovisual fieldwork corpora to maximise their potential for secondary use in cross-linguistic studies. This involves a comparative study on direct speech.
