The project "Acoustic insights into the root-affix asymmetry across languages" (AIRAL) investigates the acoustic properties of complex words in a diverse sample of the world's languages. The principal goal of AIRAL is to test if and how the internal structure of words leaves acoustic traces, in particular with regards to the distinction between roots and affixes. AIRAL will analyze a sample of around 40 annotated datasets from the DoReCo corpus created at ZAS between 2019 and 2022.
