Congratulations to Karolina Zuchewicz, who successfully defended her dissertation entitled "On the veridicality of perfective clause-embedding verbs in Polish" at the Humboldt University of Berlin today.
She shows that the verbal aspect of a verb determines not only whether a direct object is definite, but also whether an object sentence is to be assumed to be true in verbs such as say or prove. Her results are based on experiments on Polish, but the results are also of considerable importance for other languages.
