Elin McCready is Professor in the Department of English at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. Her research focuses on semantics and pragmatics and she has published several books and many articles on topics including pragmatic reliability, evidentiality, honorification, expressive content, discourse particles, perspectival predicates, modals, demonstratives, and dogwhistles. She is currently working on topics such as aesthetic interpretation, nonanthropomorphic perspectives in narrative, derogatory speech and misgendering, and experimental literature, as well as working to complete a book about dogwhistles with Robert Henderson.
She works at the Leibniz-Centre General Linguistics with a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
