Dr. John M. Tomlinson

Dr. John Tomlinson was a research associate in the Research Area IV 'Semantics & Pragmatics'. He was also the laboratory manager responsible for the psycholinguistic laboratory at ZAS.

His research interests include the interface between sentence/language processing and linguistic theories about semantics and pragmatics. To this end, he has developed new methods that can investigate the implications in real time and identify their influence of intonation and other discourse factors. At the moment he is investigating the relationship between implicatures and sociolinguistic factors within dialogue, in particular how conversation partners interpret pauses.
