We mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. Joanna Błaszczak

09.07.2021

It is with great dismay that ZAS has learned that Joanna Błaszczak, Professor of English Studies at the University of Wrocław, passed away on the night of July 7-8 after a long illness.

Joanna Błaszczak received her PhD from Humboldt University in 2000 and her habilitation from the University of Potsdam in 2008. For a short time she was also employed at ZAS; in particular, she contributed to the book "Das mehrsprachige Klassenzimmer". In 2008 she was appointed to the University of Wrocław, where she established the Laboratory for Experimental Language Research. She remained closely connected to the ZAS as a collaborative partner. She has led joint research projects with ZAS scientists and has also been involved in several PhD projects. In addition, she strengthened the relationship between the University of Wrocław, the ZAS, and the Humboldt University through regular lecture invitations. A first obituary from the University of Wrocław is here.

She will be greatly missed.
