Prof Dr Natalia Gagarina was invited as an expert to a workshop on the campus of the Turkish-German University in Istanbul. At the opening of the International Workshop on Turkish Language Teaching for Bilinguals, organised by the Turkish Maarif Foundation (TMV) and the Turkish-German University, the Vice Director of ZAS gave a lecture entitled ‘A critical overview of the formation of authentic grammatical systems in Turkish-German bilingual children from the first word to primary school’.
Within her speech, Gagarina emphasised that understanding the linguistic development of Turkish-German children involves various factors such as grammar, socio-cultural influences, family dynamics and educational environments. The ZAS research is intended to highlight the special features of grammatical development in this group and examine the challenges and opportunities in different language environments. The aim is to identify common developmental milestones and differences in order to deepen the understanding of grammatical systems in multicultural societies and to promote measures to support bilingual children.
