Artemis Alexiadou at Salon Sophie Charlotte 2026

12.01.2026

On Saturday, 17 January 2026 (6:00–12:00 p.m.), the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities(BBAW) invites the public to Salon Sophie Charlotte 2026 at its Academy Building at Gendarmenmarkt. Under the theme “Resolving Conflicts!”, the event explores conflicts in society, politics, culture, and science, and asks which strategies might help to address and resolve them.

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Artemis Alexiadou, Director of the Leibniz-Centre General Linguistics (ZAS), will give a lecture entitled “Understanding and Resolving Language Conflicts.” In her talk, she discusses how linguistic controversies arise—for example around standard language, language change, or competing linguistic forms and shows how an analytical perspective on language can open up new ways of dealing with such conflicts.
