BIVEM wins Open Access Open Science Award 2018

07.03.2018

The Berlin Interdisciplinary Alliance for Multilingualism (BIVEM) has been awarded the OpenAccess-OpenScience Prize 2018 of the German Society for Linguistics ('Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sprachwissenschaft') for its work. The prize, endowed with 5,000 euros, is awarded by the German Society for Linguistics to individuals, projects or institutions who have rendered outstanding services in Germany in recent years to the free availability of the fundamentals and findings of linguistic research.

With its freely accessible brochure series "So geht Mehrsprachigkeit", BIVEM makes an important contribution to the question of how society deals with multilingualism. The series is aimed at educators, teachers, social workers, speech therapists, doctors and parents, and provides scientifically validated findings for practical use in a form appropriate for the target group. The information series is in great demand and is thus a prime example of the successful transfer of basic research from linguistics to the general public.
