As the organizing committee and colleagues in the field are keen on having an in-person conference, it was decided to postpone the SMC2021 conference to 2022. If necessary, a virtual platform will be available as well.
The aim of this conference is to advance interdisciplinary and fundamental research in speech production and pathology by bringing together prominent scientists and talented early-stage researchers from multiple fundamental disciplines (neurosciences, human movement sciences, genetics, psychology, and linguistics) as well as from clinical areas (neurosurgery, medicine, and speech and language pathology). The atmosphere of the conference is friendly and supportive. There are no parallel sessions, and poster presentations are valued equal to oral presentations. The success of this approach can be seen in the many returning participants from previous editions.
Submissions are encouraged on topics related to normal and impaired speech production, with a special interest for the following themes:
1. Neural Anatomy & Physiology of Speech Production (Chair: Marina Laganaro)
2. Speech Production Modeling & Action-Perception (Chairs: Susanne Fuchs, Phil Hoole)
3. Disorders of Speech Motor Control and Fluency (Chair: Anja Lowit)
4. (A)typical Speech Motor and Speech Sound Development in Children
(Chairs: Aude Noiray; Aravind Namasivayam)
5. Machine Learning (Chair: Angela Morgan) & Data Sharing (Chair: Adam Vogel)
